This is a transcript of an interview with Geoffrey Leventham, given after the release of the Oozak EP.

Good morning. To start with, who are you?

Good morning. I am Geoffrey Leventhem, the founding member of Oozak.

How did you get started on the kazoo?

My parents were very musical people. I can't remember the first time I played a kazoo; there was always one somewhere in the house. Actually, my earliest kazoo memory is trying to make fart noises in a big brass kazoo.

Was the kazoo always your major instrument?

For a long time, I forgot about the kazoo. As a teenager, it was all guitars and drums. But one day, I realised that I was wasting my time, and that the kazoo was the instrument I should have been playing.

Kazoos are often called a novelty instrument. How do you feel about this?

Obviously, as a serious musician, it saddens me to see such a noble instrument maligned like this. The kazoo's versatility has been a double-edged sword; it makes an excellent novelty instrument, but it is also capable of so much more. That's where Oozak fits in.

So Oozak was about the promotion of the kazoo?

Absolutely. I mean, I knew that the album was never going to be high art, but if I could help change the public perception of kazoos, it would open up the market for other artists. It looks like I'm succeeding.

You've been accused of being derivative and unoriginal.

I can't deny that the Oozak album was derivative - it was an album of covers! To my critics, I can only ask them to wait for the future.

Will Oozak expand to use other instruments?

You will have to wait and see.

What are your immediate plans?

I will be touring internationally to support the album, and then focus on future releases

Geoffrey, thank you for your time.

My pleasure.
