Holding the Kazoo
(introduction | holding | humming | hands)For all sections in this guide, it is assumed you are using a standard kazoo. While specialist kazoos can be used to great effect, it is recommended that you learn the basics first.
Kazoo positioning is often taken for granted by novices and the general public. While it is true that one can concentrate on Humming (dealt with in the next section), the exclusive use of the standard First Position hold will severely restrict one's range and expression. There are many self-taught kazoomers that could benefit from basic Holding instruction.
All descriptions are given using standard kazoo terminology. If you are unfamiliar with these terms, please use my online kazoo glossary.
There are three fundamentally different ways to hold a kazoo; these are referred to as the Major Positions.
