How To Play The Kazoo

by Oozak founder and critically acclaimed kazoomer, Geoffrey Leventham.

Today I would like to talk to you about playing the kazoo. While signing CDs after concerts, I am often approached by would-be kazoomers, asking for advice. How do I get started? How do you make it look so easy? I blow, but no sound comes out! For too long, the secrets that make the kazoo the King of Instruments have been held by a few jealous masters. Through the power of the Internet, I would like to make this information free for all to use.

I will deal with each of the major aspects of kazooistry in turn. I would suggest that the novice browses each section, and returns as necessary to pick up any missed details. It is not sensible to expect instant mastery; I cannot emphasize enough the need for constant practise.

The Three 'H's

Holding the Kazoo: in this section, you will learn about each of the kazoo's three Major Positions, and how to choose the right Position for your own work.

Humming: Many beginners struggle to produce sounds with a kazoo; in many ways, this section is the most important, as it is your unique Hum that will set your kazooing apart from other artists.

Hands: Once the basic sections have been mastered, kazoomers can start to use their hands to accentuate the emotion of the kazoo; this section explains Finesses, Mutes, Quivers, and more.

Let's move on to Section 1: Holding The Kazoo.
